It is a condition of affiliation that regular, associate, and student members of the Canadian Association of Cardiac Rehabilitation (CACR) maintain a high level of ethical and professional conduct. This code should be considered the standard of propriety by which you conduct your relationships with colleagues, members, allied professions and the public.

Members should strive to improve their knowledge and skills, and be prepared to disseminate their findings to both their colleagues and to the public in a timely fashion. Members should maintain high professional and scientific standards, and should safeguard the public interest against members who are deficient in ethical conduct or professional competence.

Maintenance of Good Standing:

Any regular, associate and student members required by law to be licensed, certified, or otherwise regulated by any government agency or professional association in order to practice his/her vocation must maintain standing in the agency or association as a condition of continued membership in the Canadian Association of Cardiac Rehabilitation. Any expulsion, suspension, probation, or other sanction imposed by such government or professional body on any member may be grounds for disciplinary action by the Association.

Public Disclosure of Affiliation:

Regular, associate and student members may disclose their affiliation with the Association in appropriate professional context, including use in curriculum vitae, biographical descriptions or in other similar professional designations. Disclosure should in no way be construed as accreditation or an endorsement of the member's professional capability.

Disclosure of affiliation may not be made in connection with any commercial venture without prior written authorization of the Association. Disclosure in violation of these guidelines may be grounds for disciplinary action.

Privacy and Confidentiality:

The CACR collects a certain amount of personal information about all our members in order to conduct our internal business, communicate with and provide member services and benefits. One of our priorities has always been to protect your personal information and our mailing and email lists. With the consent of CACR members (membership and renewal application forms) and in accordance with the CACR membership agreement, CACR will sell its member's mailing list to CACR members or cardiac rehabilitation programs (with CACR members) for the purpose of notifying members of educational opportunities including conferences and seminars. The CACR will not sell its mailing list of members or programs to any outside organizations. CACR will when practical, undertake to conduct mailings on behalf of appropriate outside organizations. Proper measures have been taken within the National Office to ensure the security of your information. Your membership record is open to you at any time via the website. Members must agree to adhere to privacy and confidentiality laws concerning the information of other members and must not use this information for mass mailing or other such purposes without the prior written approval of the CACR.

Discipline:

Any regular, associate, and student member of the Association may be disciplined or expelled for conduct which in the opinion of the Board of Directors is derogatory or inconsistent with the objectives of the Association. In any case where the conduct of a member is questioned, that member will have an opportunity to refute such charges by making representation to the Board of Directors. When, in the opinion of the Board, the expulsion of a member is necessary, the decision must be affirmed by a vote of two-thirds of the Directors at a regular or special meeting called to consider such a matter. Other disciplinary actions such as a reprimand, probation, or censure may be considered by the Board of Directors and will also require a two-thirds majority vote of the Directors present at a meeting.
